About Me

From Mailman to Engineer

I’m Caleb Matteis, a full-stack engineer with a sharp eye for clean code, scalable systems, and practical solutions. I currently work at PMC, where I help build performant publishing platforms that power iconic brands like Rolling Stone and Variety. My toolkit includes React, Laravel, Node.js, and PHP—but I’m also exploring Python to deepen my backend and data capabilities.

Breaking In

Before tech, I was a mailman by day and a freelance music producer by night. My curiosity for how things work—and a hunger for lifelong learning—led me to software engineering. I started with HTML and CSS tutorials, dabbled in FreeCodeCamp, and eventually joined a bootcamp when everything moved online during the COVID lockdowns. That opportunity changed my life.

After the program, I freelanced, built side projects, and learned in public. One of those projects led to a contract with PMC, which I juggled while still delivering mail. Seven months later, I was offered a full-time role—and I haven’t looked back.

What I do now

These days, I specialize in building fast, maintainable web apps with custom architecture, reusable components, and thoughtful automation. My superpower? Picking up new tools quickly and solving real problems with clarity and precision.

You can see that mindset in action through my project case studies and blog posts.

How I Work
I thrive in async and remote environments, communicate clearly, and write developer-friendly code using tools like VS Code, GitHub, Lando, and Vercel. I value readable commits, clean pull requests, and testing what matters.

Let’s build something that lasts.
